Sereno Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 17, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Sereno browser extension and the Sereno website (together, “Sereno,” “we,” “us”) collect, use, and share information. Sereno is operated by Tangent, Inc., Austin, Texas (“we”). If you have any questions, contact us at hello@heytangent.com.

1. What Sereno does

Sereno is a browser extension that overlays AI chat applications (such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini). Its single purpose is to help you assess the reliability of the claims in an AI assistant's responses by checking those claims against sources and displaying the results inline. To do this, Sereno reads the content of the AI conversation you are actively viewing.

2. Information we collect

a. AI conversation content. When Sereno is active on a supported AI chat page, it reads the text of the prompts and responses on that page in order to identify and check factual claims. [Specify: Is this processed only in your browser, or transmitted to Sereno's servers and/or third-party services? State exactly which.]

b. Verification data. To check a claim, Sereno [describe what is sent and to whom, e.g., sends extracted claims and/or search queries to verification services such as search APIs and/or large language model APIs]. The third-party services Sereno relies on are listed in Section 5.

c. Feedback you provide. If you mark a flag as helpful or unhelpful, or otherwise interact with Sereno's interface, we collect that feedback [and, if applicable, the associated claim and result] to improve the product.

d. Usage and technical data. We may collect limited technical and usage information such as [e.g., extension version, feature usage events, error logs, coarse device/browser type]. [Specify whether this is tied to an identifier or fully anonymous.]

e. Account / contact information. If you request early access or contact us, we collect the [email address] and any information you choose to provide.

f. Website analytics. Our website [uses / does not use] [analytics provider, e.g., a privacy-respecting analytics tool]. [If used, describe what it collects and link to its policy.]

We do not intentionally collect special-category or sensitive personal information, and we ask that you avoid submitting it. Sereno is not directed to children and is not intended for use by anyone under [16].

3. How we use information

We use the information above only to:

  • Provide Sereno's core function, identifying and checking claims and showing you the results;
  • Operate, maintain, debug, and secure the extension and website;
  • Improve the accuracy and usefulness of Sereno's checks, including through aggregated and de-identified analysis of feedback and usage; and
  • Respond to your requests and communicate with you about the product.

We do not:

  • sell your personal information or your conversation content;
  • use your data for personalized advertising or share it with advertising networks or data brokers;
  • use your data to determine credit-worthiness or for lending; or
  • allow our team to read your individual conversation content, except in the narrow circumstances permitted by the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy: with your explicit consent (for example, if you send us content for support), where necessary for security or abuse investigation, where required by law, or in aggregated and de-identified form used for internal operations.

4. Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure

Sereno's use of information received through the Chrome extension, and any data obtained from Google APIs, adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically, we limit our use of this data to providing and improving Sereno's single, user-facing purpose described in Section 1, and we do not transfer or use it except as permitted by that policy.

5. How we share information

We share information only as needed to run Sereno:

  • Service providers / sub-processors. [List the actual third parties and their role, e.g., hosting/cloud provider; search API provider(s); LLM/model API provider(s); error-logging provider; email provider; analytics provider.] These providers process data on our behalf under contract. [Link each provider's privacy policy.]
  • Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect against fraud, abuse, or security threats.
  • Business transfers. If Sereno is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred [, and, where required, only with your prior consent].

We do not otherwise sell or rent your personal information.

6. Data retention

We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above. [State concrete retention periods, e.g., conversation content is processed transiently and not retained beyond [X]; feedback and aggregated usage data are retained for [Y]; contact emails are retained until you ask us to delete them.]

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including transmitting data over encrypted connections (modern TLS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to limit what we collect in the first place.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information.

EEA/UK (GDPR): You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Our legal bases for processing are [consent and/or legitimate interests in providing and improving Sereno and/or performance of a contract], [confirm and tailor]. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

California (CCPA/CPRA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and share it, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not use sensitive personal information for purposes requiring an opt-out. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@heytangent.com. We will verify and respond to your request as required by applicable law.

9. International transfers

Sereno may process information in [country/region]. Where we transfer personal data across borders, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as [e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses] as required by applicable law.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice. Continued use of Sereno after an update means you accept the revised policy.
